				TU-154 behaving badly (Video footage)

The BBC News website has some quite extraordinary footage of an old TU-154 filmed on April 29 this year that makes a rollercoaster look positively tame...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13286479 The plane behaviour is under investigation, as you would expect. I would imagine that it was a very uncomfortable ride for the crew. The 154 was, at one time, the workhorse of the Soviet, and post Soviet, airlines, only a handful are still in service amongst the lesser known regionals. Apparently this plane was on the way to a maintenance station when the fault happened....scary stuff to watch and the pilots need commending for keeping the plane in the air under such circumstances.

In this report from RiaNovosti, Russian Air Force chief Col. Gen. Alexander Zelin has stated that the plane 'behaved in such a manner because its control system failed in the air' and that the crew would be 'decorated for valor & courage' for getting the plane onto the runway in one piece....personally I think the crew handled the situation - which looked scary enough from the ground, let alone what it must have felt like in the cockpit - with remarkable skill & they certainly deserve to be congratulated.

http://en.rian.ru/russia/20110506/163897006.html Its also good to read that the result of the investigation will be made public too, despite the aircraft being a part of the Russian Air Force fleet.
